Our History

In 2002, while awaiting sentencing on a drug‑related charge, Prophetess Mary heard a clear instruction from God: “Write the vision.” She obeyed, documenting a blueprint for one house with three bedrooms, serving six women—each facing unique barriers that could hinder their successful return to society. What began as a simple act of obedience became the foundation for Rhema Word House Ministries, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women transition back into the community through the transformative power of God’s Word.

In 2009, during her internship at Lansing Community College as a Community Service Coordinator, Prophetess Mary recognized a deeper need among the women participating in the Work‑First program. With her supervisor’s approval, she created an open women’s support group that met weekly to address the challenges impacting women’s ability to obtain and maintain employment.

This group became the seed for what would later grow into the structured, contractual program now operating within the transitional home known as P.E.T.A.L.S.—Preparing Everyone to Advance, Lead, and Succeed.

From a God‑given vision to a fully realized recovery housing program, Prophetess Mary’s journey reflects unwavering faith, compassion, and commitment to restoring the lives of women and women with children in the City of Lansing.
